Signed, Sealed, and Delivered!

Friday, October 1, 2010

Well, I've been a pretty absentee blogger these last few weeks - but for good reason.  I've been finishing up my dissertation, and it's finally, finally done.  I officially submitted my dissertation and all related paperwork today, which makes me - yes - a real, live Doctor.

I gotta say, I started this blog with the idea of just having fun and hopefully gaining a good audience, so I was surprised to find that doing this really helped me formulate a lot of ideas (and find ads!) that made their way into the final project.  But what I really didn't expect was that my readers would also make a big contribution.  Many of you made truly interesting and smart comments that at the very least got me thinking about new ideas.  And many of you actually went out and did research about some of the things in ads that I didn't know the meaning of, and was too lazy or didn't have the time to look up myself.  That was amazing, and quite a few of your research discoveries also made it into the dissertation.

I didn't have the space to acknowledge you in the dissertation, but believe me when I tell you that many of you did make a difference.  If/when the book comes out (fingers crossed!), you'll get your due.

Thanks for everything, and I'll be back next week,

Congratulations on your doctorate. I've just discovered your blog via a friend and have enjoyed these glimpses into the lonely hearts columns of the past. Now I see why Sherlock Holmes was famously addicted to the agony columns - they're fascinating!

Thanks again everyone!
