An introduction is earnestly solicited of the young lady or her friends or family, by the gentleman and his mother who stopped their carriage Friday morning to assist a young lady who had jumped from a stage she had just entered, corner 5th av. and 30th st., to rescue the old gentleman who had fallen in the roadway. The young lady is about 20 years of age and very beautiful; wears her hair in large brown waves; has rosy complexion and soft blue eyes; wore Persian gilt walking coat and muff. We desire her acquaintance and to present her in our family. Address Mother and Son, Herald Uptown office.Omigod! This is so charming! It's like a little short story! So, let me see if I got this straight. Our Heroine, a beautiful, brave, and spunky young lady is going about her day, perhaps about to head downtown to do some shopping. She gets onto her stagecoach, but at that moment, an elderly gentleman trips and falls. So what does Our Heroine do? She leaps down from the stage as it is about to pull away to save the old man before he gets run over! A daring rescue indeed! Especially since she was probably all corseted and petticoated and it must have been pretty hard to move with such agility! Then, I imagine, the fair damsel comforts the old gentleman and returns him to his friends.
Meanwhile, a dreamy, romantic, rich young man and his kind-hearted mother (they're in their own carriage, mind you, so they must have had some money) are driving along when they see this Amazing Act of Heroism. The girl is muddy and dirty from her fall into the streets - of course at this time they're unpaved, and probably quite filthy as there's no garbage collection in New York yet - and I suppose they stop to see if she is all right and to give her a ride whereever she needs to go. But Our Heroine, unshaken and unharmed, laughs about her adventure and goes on her merry way, disappearing Cindarella-like into the thronging, crowded streets.
Overwhelmed by her beauty, bravery, and aplomb, Prince Charming falls immediately and madly in love with this lovely apparition, and is determined to find her, by whatever means necessary, even if it means sinking so low as to place an advertisement in a newspaper. Will he find her? Can they reunite? Will they live happily ever after?
Am I getting totally carried away?
